[Dillon is mostly holing up in the infirmary, especially with Morgana gone, but he can occasionally be found grabbing a quite bite to eat or watching the stars from the deck. At one point, he finds his way down to the geometree and nibbles a hostess cake in between half-heartedly humming the 'happy birthday' song.]

So what's he doing here?

Pretty sure he's in for war crimes, human rights violations, crushing rebellions. You know. Emperor stuff. He doesn't talk about that either, but uh. I'm good at reading people.

Someone with those kinds of resources at his disposal, you'd think he'd have found a way to get out a long time ago. Unless they're not all that fond of him back home.

There's not really a way to bring those resources to bear. But he almost did, once. Dragged the whole ship with him. It was -

[It's not a shudder, exactly. Dillon had been - something else, a brain glitch that let him process near-infinite information, plugged into the datastreams of Home for five years straight, watching for one rogue AI, finding patterns, thinking like a planet. He rubs the line of his mouth.]

A lot of people were loyal. It was complicated. And now he's missing again? I don't know.

[Cold frowns, sitting up a little to watch Dillon's expression]

Missing how? He escaped?

He's trying, I think? But his door is still here, and the ship is chasing him down. It won't last.

[This tone is different, with the casual sort of certainty that means he hasn't even considered the possibility that the escape will work, it's that unlikely.]

If he's off the ship, he's escaped. Even if it's only for a short period of time.

Not to mince words over the small stuff, but that still counts as an escape in my book.

Maybe he did, then.

Sometimes people just vanish, wake up later with no idea they were gone. But there's been a pattern shift, and that would mostly account for it, if he actually did something.

What kind of pattern shift?

I dunno, I haven't pinned it down yet. Inmates are circulating a little differently? It's hard to describe. I see a lot of things that happen at the subconscious level.

[It's an interesting puzzle, if one he's only really poking at idly.]

I didn't realize imprisoning criminals took such deep thinking.

It depends how close you look, really.

I think you're being optimistic. Some people are just really, incredibly boring.
